UNODC Civil Society Unit: Call for Participants!

UNODC Civil Society Unit is inviting applications for an online and self-paced course on “Stakeholder Engagement for the Implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (SE4U)” |15 October – 1 December 2021

Training objectives

The overall objective of this course is to improve the capacity of civil society organizations, academia and the private sector to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Review Mechanism in accordance with Resolution 9/1 of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and to prepare them for constructive dialogue with government authorities and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). More specifically, the course aims to: 

  • Equip non-governmental stakeholders with knowledge about the UNTOC and its supplementing Protocols; 
  • Provide practical information about entry points and tools for engagement of non-governmental stakeholders in the Review Mechanism; 
  • Stimulate the sharing of experiences, networking and collaborative initiatives addressing organized crime at national, regional and global levels.

Duration

The course will run between 15 October to 1 December 2021.

Training Format

This is a self-paced (asynchronous) online course. Participants can access study materials and complete assignments anytime during the given period. The course is conducted through the UNODC Global eLearning Platform, a Web-based learning management system in which a password-protected course environment is created for the course. This platform can be accessed from any computer with internet connection. Google Chrome is the recommended internet browser. This online course is held in English. The course is currently available in English.  Versions in French, Spanish and Arabic are coming soon.

Workload

Participants should be prepared to invest approximately 18 hours of their time into the course. The course does not have to be completed in one seating. All participants are welcome to split the workload throughout the duration of the course in the way that works best for their schedules and learning styles. 

Course materials

The course is based on UNODC Toolkit on Stakeholder Engagement: Implementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. Relevant parts of the Toolkit are provided in each section of the course.

Eligibility

  • belong to one of the following groups: (i) civil society organizations, (ii) academia and (iii) the private sector;
  • have a vested interested in countering transnational organized crime, addressing at least one of the following topics: (i) trafficking in persons, (ii) migrant smuggling, (iii) illicit firearms, and (iv) emerging crimes (e.g., cybercrime);
  • possess a working knowledge of the English language (B1 European Language Framework or equivalent is required to participate in this course).
